To design a wearable for seniors aged 60 – 70 years old who are living alone in assisted public housing (HDB) to call for help during an emergency
WHY A WEARABLE TO CALL FOR HELP?
Seniors living in a community of assisted living have facilities to enable them to age gracefully in place. A Senior Activity Centre (SAC) where activities and classes are hosted there with a team of staff working during office hours.
CURRENT PAIN POINTS
However, current solutions to call for help is insufficient. Emergency pull cords are installed in homes but some seniors tie up as they find them insightly rendering them useless in the event of a fall. Furthermore, there has been cases where there are seniors lying dead on the floor only a few steps away from the pull cord.
INTEGRATION TO EXISTING RESPONDER SYSTEM
Part of the brief was to design the wearable as a hardware to integrate with their exisiting national responder system. In the even of an emergency the hardware detects biometric data of seniors which is sent to their backend system to be process instantly to call for a responder to assist. These responders could be the ambulance or people nearby.
